The Great WOiP Giveaway: Organization Day - Who Do YOU Want To Jott?

By danc - Posted on 29 December 2008

I love Jott  and use it all the time.

Back when we first started this site I  chronicled of my search to determine which of the  iPhone voice to text services worked best for me. Ultimately, it is Jott that I use every single day. I use it to send messages to my assistant and, more often, to simply send messages to myself. Jott is particularly useful when I'm in the car and think of something that I must remember. I start Jott's  iPhone application or I call Jott's  number and start to speak. My Jott Pro plan gives me 30 seconds of recording time. That's usually enough time for a brief  message and  when it's not, I just called back. Yes,  there are many days when I am a "serial Jotter".

After so many months using the service, "Who do you want to Jott?"  is now burned into my memory along with "Have it your way",  "Where's the beef?", and "I want my MTV."

Jott came out of beta a number of months back. It was only reasonable that at some point they would need to move in a direction toward profitability. Some people grumbled about the pricing plan,  mostly, I suspect, because they were used to getting the service for free. I happen to think the  company  came up with incredibly fair plan. If you want to use Jott  for free there is still an option to do so. In fact, that option even includes the iPhone application! If, however, you want the option to leave longer messages and to have them e-mailed to you (if you use the "call in" approach  since the iPhone application doesn't do that)  you can choose one of the other plans. They begin at just $3.95 a month.

I opted for an annual Jott Pro plan and think it's a good value.  For that I get to leave messages that are 30 seconds long, I can use Jott  for iPhone,  Blackberry, Outlook, and Jott Express.  I have access to all of the Jott Links  (there are too many to mention) and each time I leave a message in e-mails it to me.

The good folks at Jott  have been kind enough to offer a one-year subscription to the plan of one WOiP reader's choice. We cannot thank them enough for their generosity and think this is one great giveaway. What better prize during our "Get Organized in 2009" giveaway.

To enter to win tell us what three organizational app (in addition to Jott,  of course) are most useful to you and why.

I use Evernote constantly to save webclips and articles I find around the internet. The neat thing about Evernote is that these articles are synced across my Mac and Windows systems, available on my iPhone with the free Evernote iPhone app, and on the web. Additionally, Evernote's excellent tagging features and search, which OCRs image attachments, makes it easy to find exactly what I want even if I tagged it months before. I've been using Evernote for a while now, and have completely stopped using Delicious to tag my bookmarks - everything just goes straight into Evernote. That way, not only do I have the link, but I also have the article in case the original disappears. For articles I want to read but not necessarily save, I have increasingly been using Instapaper. It's iPhone app is excellent as well, and extremely fast. I also use Mint to manage my finances. It's a fantastic webservice, which allows my to have a quick overview of all of my transactions and provides budgeting tools so I can see how much I spend and where. Additionally, Mint's free iPhone app makes keeping up with your finances on the goal easy! Thanks for another fantastic contest!

Iconic Notes-  I use it to keep notes on things I think of for my teams I coach.  Sometimes after games on the bus I can get thoughts organized about the games etc...
Pick and Choose-  I hate grocery shopping!  I can never remember things during the week I think of or if my wife is not with me, things she tells me to get.  This app lets me build a list throughout the week and keep it nice and neat.  I use it at least once a week.
Calender-  I coach 3 sports throughout the year.  The calender app allows me to keep sports schedules for the whole year available.  I also use it a lot when I am working on the next year's schedule.

My 3:
DoBot ToDo - Simplest ToDo manager that I've found. Simply open it, add an item, check it off later!
Noteskinnery - What I've evolved to use for my notebooking, after going from 3-ring binder to Moleskine, now to Noteskinnery.  I use it to journal, to track dreams, thoughts, short-story writing, ideas.
Calendar - I use Calendar a lot just to add reminders and notes for appointments and such.  Haven't found something that's simpler and gives the same functionality!

Remember The Milk -- The iPhone app is awesome, and I use it all the time with Jott to record tasks I think of while driving.  It's great in combination with twitter as well, as it is easy to set up links to auto-add tasks from your desktop with a single command.
Google Calendar - Unfortunately there's not a good dedicated iPhone app for this yet (although the web interface is pretty good), and there's only work-arounds to sync it with the iPhone calendar, but this is another important organization piece which can again, have items added directly from Jott.  When I'm at the doctor and make an appointment, I instantly call jott and add it to my calendar.  You can get reminders over SMS straight to your phone, which can be helpful for those easily sidetracked (like me).
Evernote - I email myself notes and stuff sometimes, but I don't like my inbox cluttered, so this is a good tool to use for long-term documents and web-clippings that I want access to everywhere.  The iPhone app is very good as well, and allows for voice notes and picture notes in addition to the normal text notes.  I use this for grocery lists and things that I can edit on my desktop, and then view on my phone.

Things - the best GTD app out there
Evernote - it`s so easy to have all the notes with me
Remember the Milk - i love their gmail and twitter gadget
