Aefo Alfie is, pure and simple, a clone of the Where’s Waldo application.  The only difference I can see is that Alfie is in famous locations (such as Times Square in New York City) rather than the nondescript location of Waldo.

The game itself is pretty simple.  You can choose locations in either North America or Europe and can choose from several cities within each location.  Unlike Waldo, the colors are more dull as well so it’s slightly more difficult to find Alfie.  As of this writing I haven’t been able to find him in any of the pictures and I wonder if he’s even there in the first place.

If you double-tap any of the scenes, the app zooms in on the people then you use simple scrolling motions to move around the picture.  I’m not sure if the Waldo series has done the "famous location" concept in the books, but if it hasn’t been done it should be.

The problem with Alfie is that he has no distinguishing features, unlike Waldo with his hat, glasses and scarf.  For all I know, this entire app is a ruse to showcase the art skills of the creator.

Since both Alfie and Waldo are offered for the $1.99 price as of this writing, I can only recommend that parents wishing to entertain their children with this sort of game stick to Waldo.  If those parents want to teach their children about world monuments, then perhaps they could give Alfie a try.

Quick Take

Value:Low to Medium.

Would I Buy Again:Probably not.

Learning Curve:Low.

Who Is It For:Those who seek a "Where's Waldo" alternative.

What I Like:Good art.

What I Don't Like:It's tough to find Alfie since his features are less distinguishable.

Final Statement:Unless you like world monuments, I would recommend sticking with Waldo.
