A quick confession: I do not watch the Dexter television show. It’s not from a lack of interest. It’s simply that I don’t get Showtime. The good news is that you don’t have to watch the show to understand the iPhone/iPod Touch game. If the show is anywhere near as good as the game, I may have to rent the DVDs.
The game is based on Season One of the show. Dialogue is provided from the show itself and Dexter star Michael C. Hall contributed some extra lines for the game. The Options menu allows the user to customize several aspects of the game. If you don’t understand the game, a very good Help section is provided.
Dexter, the Game is essentially task-based. You are controlling Dexter himself and trying to take out other murderers while keeping your own "Dark Passenger" in check The game leads you through the tasks you have to perform in order to progress further. It’s like participating in a television episode of the drama.
The 3D graphics and motion are on par with the best I’ve seen on the iPhone / Touch. This is a very sophisticated and well-done game. Most of the games I’ve played with similar graphics and motion were simply first-person shooters. This one has a clear, coherent story to follow and it uses a tremendous amount of psychology and suspense, not very much seen in lesser games.
Pros: Excellent graphics. Superior game. One of the best I’ve played.
Cons: None that I can see, unless you prefer first-person shooters.
