Our Review:

Low Grav Racer

Low Grav Racer is an old game, as far as iPhone games go.  It's been out since December 2008.  That being said, in celebration of the release of the sequel game Low Grav Racer 2, it was offered for free for a day and that's when I picked it up.

Wow, what a game.  It's a first-person racing game but in a space-age enviornment with a car that doesn't even touch the ground.  The visuals are fantastic and the graphics and animation are superb.  No wonder this was a $5.99 game in it's time.

You can choose between multiple car styles and multiple tracks.  It's also possible to pause a race and, via the options menu, control the steering sensitivity, the music and FX volume, and change views between the cockpit and the ship.

You can steer the ship by tilting the device and you can pick up various items along that track that will either improve your speed or shields.  There are also obstacles along the track and naturally hitting either those or the wall is a bad thing.  You don't lose lives in this game but you do lose the race.

For a racing game, this game is about as close to perfect as I can find.  Any problems with recreating exact physics can be explained in the science fiction premise of the whole game.  If George Lucas used this computing engine as a vehicle for his pod racing game, he'd have another iPhone winner.

Quick Take

Value: High.

Would I Buy Again: Yes.

Learning Curve: Low.

Who Is It For: Racing game lovers.

What I Like: Excellent graphics and animation.

What I Don't: Not much.

Final Statement: If you can get it for free, make it so, but six bucks is a little steep for this racing game.
