User Rating:This app comes from Sean Kovacs, the brilliant developer behind GV mobile, one of the more important apps to be released in recent weeks or months. That application is nothing short of brilliant as it makes it possible to take Google voice with you no matter where you are.
This app, on the other hand, is dumb. Seriously it’s dumb. It’s one of those one trick pony applications that has a really cute idea, performs a single task and performs a task which is completely and totally irrelevant. As I said, it’s dumb. "How dumb is it?" I’m glad you asked — it’s really really dumb. It’s dumb. It’s stupid. And if it weren’t "PC" to use the term these days — I’d say it’s retarded.
The App offers two screens. In one you see an old-fashioned service about — the round silver dome with the little ringer thing in the center. In the other you see the service bell on a heart health service counter. In both cases you The center part of the dome, where the ringer thing is, and it makes a sound the way any service bell would. That’s the whole app. That’s all it does. I told you, it’s a stupid dumb retarded app. Sean even knows it since he explains how the app came to be on his blog in this way —
Teaming up with my cousin Mike, we developed a simple but effective Service Bell. After initially getting rejected by Apple due to lack of functionality, the Service Bell was released on February 3rd and has been a pretty big hit for such a simple application. The app worked its way up to #40 in the Entertainment category (free) and then shortly after took a turn for the worse as newer apps gained rank, dropping the app down a couple (dozen) notches.
I told you, it’s dumb, stupid, and retarded. And yet I absolutely love this app. It sounds just like the real thing. It’s so ridiculously simple that I wish I’d thought of it. It makes me laugh. And it made the dog nuts when I was using it way too much last night. And it’s even free. Here, take a look for yourself —
