User Rating:Ringtones are among the biggest ripoffs around. The price AT&T or Apple want… rediculous! There are, thankfully workarounds and, in fact, you don’t even have to jailbreak your iPhone to use them. There’s the "Garage Band" soution… but that requires using Garage Band…
Then there’s Ringtone Recorder Pro. With the app creating ringtones couldn’t be easier.
Creating a new ring tone is simple. First you start the app. Then you figure out what it is that you want to record. If you’re using a phone you can use the mic to record any sort of message you want. Or, you can hold the microphone on the iPhone off to any sound source and record it for up to 30 seconds.
After record button and play the sound or speak whatever it is you want to speak for up to 30 seconds. Then have to stop button. In order to make sure you like what it is that you created you can tap the "play" button. If you’re happy with your creation you simply tap the download button.
This opens a new screen that asks you to name your ring tones and input your e-mail address. Once you Done the application sends your according to its server and returns it back to your e-mail in the necessary format for use as a ring tone. Then, once you drag it into your iTunes ring tone folder, and next time you sync your iPhone your new creation will be there.
The application costs all $.99 or, to look at it a different way, the cost of one ring tone. After purchasing it you can create as many as you want. That’s smart shopping.
Quick Take:
Value: High
Would I buy again? You bet!
Learning curve: Low. The Garage Band approach takes thought. This doesn’t.
Who is it for? Anyone who wants to assign custom ringtones to contacts
What I like: Cheap and works great! Simple.
What I don’t: Nothing
