According to Reuters Walmart has started a new test run in one of their Arkansas stores called “Scan & Go” the service allows iPhone users to scan their items after finishing their shopping they then proceed to a self-checkout station.
The test comes months after Walmart said that it would add more self-checkout lanes at its Walmart and Sam’s Club stores as it continues to look for ways to lower costs and prices for its shoppers.Customers who participated in the test session were compensated with a $100 payment and a $25 Walmart gift card for the one-hour sessions.
While specifics are still sparse, there is no doubt that getting customers to scan their own items will not only make the checkout process faster, but it would also allow Walmart millions of dollars, on cashier wages. According to chief financial officer Charles Holley Walmart currently spends about $US12 million in cashier wages every day at its Walmart US stores.
