New In The App Store: Slacker Radio – Updated
Choice is good and the choices for getting internet radio on your iPhone just got better with the release of Slacker Radio for the iPhone.
The Slacker Radio App gives access to the entire Slacker music library. That means millions of songs from thousands of artists all streamed (but not stored) right through your iPhone.
With the app you can listen to over 100 expert programmed radio stations or create your own custom stations directly on the iPhone.
After creating a Slacker Radio account right on my iPhone (it took seconds) the app quickly loaded a list of stations. The layout is nice and rather convenient.you can choose music base on genre, a general search, pre-selected favorites ot the "Slacker Spotlight".
Stations start quickly, the sound quality is quite good, the interface is refined and the app is quite stable.
As you might expect from other apps of this kind, you can select stations as favorites, get album details, and purchase music on iTunes right from the iPhone.
Like Pandora, Slacker’s music licensing means you can only skip six songs per station per hour. That’s annoying but it isn’t their fault. One thing I like very much is the fact that a small counter at the bottom of a station’s screen let’s you know how many skips you have left.
The graphics of the app are certainly unique but ultimately it seems to offer the same selection of music as Pandora and Last.fm. There’s nothing earthshaking here but, then again, choice is always a good thing. The ability to upgrade to Slacker Radio Plus for $3.99/month and get, among other things, unlimited skips and even more song customization is a really nice option. More info can be found HERE.
