Pebble opens App Store to add apps to Pebble Smart Watch
During the CES 2014, Pebble originally announced they would be launching an app store. The store was to feature several new watch faces as well as apps that can be downloaded onto the Pebble.
Now the App Store has officially been launched, the store shares similarities with the Apple and Google App Stores. This is the first time apps for the Pebble will be compiled in one location, in the past apps were found on third party sites and could then be added to the smart watch.
Both the original Pebble Smart Watch as well as the new Pebble Steel can access the app store. Each Pebble watch can hold up to eight apps, Pebble has added a Pebble locker making it much easier for users to install and uninstall apps.
The appstore is organized into six different categories, including Daily, Tools & Utilities, Notifications, Remotes, Fitness, and Games.
Currently more than 1,000 apps have found their way into the Pebble app store, including apps from major companies such as Yelp, GoPro, and Foursquare.
The new Pebble app for iOS which includes the Pebble appstore is now available for download in the iTunes Store. There will be a release for Android as well but it is still in the Beta phase.
