Day One With The New Jott App

Google’s second generation app was an absolute game-changer. Being able to do a Google search with nothing more than your voice is nothing short of amazing.I use it all the time now and am continually blown away by the speed, accuracy and convenience.

To my mind, Jott’s new app is an equally significant game-changer.

Sure, the new Jott app has a slick new interface that offers far more control over recordings. But that’s not the killer feature.

Sure it offers much improved file upload speeds. But that’s not the killer feature either.

Sure the new "All Lists" screen makes the app even better for recording and accessing notes. Killer feature? Nope

And SURE, the ability to post updates to webservices like Twitter and Facebook is great. But EVEN THAT’S not the killer feature.  Nope, this is…

The new Jott app let’s you send emails and texts to individual contacts or groups of contacts with nothing more than your voice. We’re not talking voice files here. No, we’re talking- you create a voice note but  the recipient gets text. As the folks at Jott describe it-

There’s no need to mess with a keyboard if you want to send an email to one of your iPhone contacts. Once you’re in the app, just tap any contact, one of your favorites, or a group and then start speaking. When finished, tap again to convert to text and send. Just like the call-in service, your message will be converted to text and sent to your contact or group.

I used it today and it is fantastic! I chose ten contacts I email often and made them "Favorites". Now, sending them an email is just a tap and a (verbal) Jott away.

Best of all, as the example below shows, the transcription quality is quite good!   More information can be found on Jott’s site.
