Facebook is on the iPad, and it’s about time. Granted, this is just an extension of the original Facebook for the iPhone released in 2008, but the update is significant enough to warrant its own review. Heck, there have been rumors of this one (and some proof even) for the past few months.
And what an app it is! There are elements of the app I wish Mark Zuckerberg and crew would adapt for the website. I particularly like the thought that went into the design and how the left menu can be gotten to by either a top of the icon on the upper left or simply swiping the screen. I particularly like how swiping the screen back gives you more real estate to read the arbitrary, mundane writings of your Facefriends.
You can pretty much do everything on the app that you can do on the website, including profile editing and posting. One downside I could mention is that the Account Settings section is just as confusing as it is on website, but that’s probably intentional. The client app does make the use of Facebook run more smoothly.
Before this, there were many third-party Facebook apps for iPad that are now probably out of business. Some of them even had the gall to charge money for the product. It’s tough to justify paying for an app when you’re the product that is being sold to someone else and not the consumer. Fortunately, Facebook for iPad is free. If you use Facebook and own an iPad, this should be on your short-list to download.
