User Rating:Sometimes, apps are of such a horrendous quality that you have to wonder if the developers behind them are doing serious sexual favours for the Apple moderators to get them on there (I’m pretty sure that gas masks, bondage swings and whips are involved). With quality control on the App Store seemingly so tight, how does something like Celebalike get on there?
Celebalike is another one of those cash-in apps where you take a photo, and it does some apparently advanced scanning thing to show you your celebrity likeness. The problem is, it doesn’t work. It’s not even close to working.
After taking several photos of myself (I’m fairly dark-skinned, green-eyed, dark brown hair), the app couldn’t resist comparing me to various blonde celebrities; namely Jamie Oliver, Macaulay Culkin and – this is the deal-breaker – Edward Jedward.
I have no idea how this app makes its calculations, but I don’t like it. In fact, I feel like it’s intentionally winding me up by saying I look like an untalented, pineapple-haired wanker. But putting aside the app’s personal insult to me, it’s grossly inaccurate and seems to makes its calculations using fairy dust and bull-shit. Worst of all, it’s a big hit on the App Store. Please show your solidarity in the fight for quality control and don’t waste your money on this!
Quick Take
Value:Low.
Would I Buy Again:No.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Suckers for celeb culture.
What I Like:Its low ratings on the App Store mean that it slip into obscurity soon.
What I Don't Like:Its brutal inaccuracy in comparing me to Jedward.
Final Statement:Annoyingly inaccurate celeb lookalike app.
