An attempt at setting up an alternative to Apple’s SIRI system native to the iPhone 4S, Voice Assistant aims to make voice control a much easier affair. However, Voice Assistant is not quite the capable assistant SIRI is. While it is able to do things the SIRI cannot do, it is still limited in a sense that controlling certain functions and features of an iPhone or iPod Touch is not possible through this app.

To begin with, Voice Assistant does not offer users the ability to set up system services such as alarm clocks or schedule meetings and appointments. What Voice Assistant can do however, is take down everything you say verbally and help you post them through your social networks or as emails and text messages. This sets it completely apart from SIRI.

Voice Assistant can be used to send messages to social feeds such as Twitter and Facebook, or to contacts through text message exchanges or emails. The whole process of sending text is extremely simple. Just boot up the app, tap the microphone button and say what  you have to say into your device’s microphone. After that, the app will convert your audio input into written text, where you will be given the option to edit the translated text. Upon completion of this step, Voice Assistant gives you a list of networks to post the text to.

While a novel idea, Voice Assistant is not something that you will use after the novelty dies off. While the concept of using dictation to send messages across sounds productive as it is definitely much faster, it is not exactly a very wise idea to start dictating your texts while on the bus or something along those lines.

For $0.99, Voice Assistant is not worth the money. While it does get it’s promised job done, it is not efficient as an app geared towards boosting productivity for that one dollar.
