User Rating:I’m not easily thrilled by puzzle games. I don’t enjoy match-3 or Bejeweled themed contraptions aimed at making me lose neurons. Luckily Gluey is different.
Originally a Flash game, in Gluey you basically have to reach the target score to beat the level and move on. And how do you earn points? Well, first there’s a container, then there’s a pipe. Through the pipe glueys in different colors flow into the container: with each tap more gluey flows. As soon as enough glueys of the same colour touch each other, they grow eyes and can be tapped. The bigger, the more points. So far, a standard color matching puzzle-tapper. Up to this point it might remind you of the cult indie classic World of Goo.
The twist is that the shape of containers adds a lot of complexities to reaching the target score… As do the magical colour changers in some levels. Oh, and the poisoned glueys (that disappear after a set amount of turns, but can make it into gameover with just one tap.) And the toxic waste at the bottom of some containers… and the coloured locks.
Gluey has more than meets the eye in puzzle games, and can save you from being bored in short waits. Perfect for casual gamers, you can play a few levels in just 5 minutes.
In short: Gluey is an original and stylish puzzle game. Deeper than what you may expect.
Quick Take
Value:Medium
Would I Buy Again:Maybe
Learning Curve:Low
Who Is It For:Casual gamers, puzzle lovers
What I Like:Original, fun
What I Don't Like:It's okay, no regrets
Final Statement:A good puzzle game. Give it a shot
Gluey is not your typical puzzle game—Forced into weird containers in a far off land, glueys will slosh, splat, split and glorp together in infinitely hilarious ways. Your mission is to combine blobby Zen thinking, gravity and the occasional thermonuclear explosion to rescue the blobs from an untimely end.
Gluey has been completely redesigned for iOS and includes all new levels that are guaranteed to suck away your last remnants of productivity. Did we mention there's toxic waste, bottomless pits, and skulls?
