User Rating:Think Minecraft meets Counter-Strike. Sounds like a perfect concoction doesn’t it? For one, you have the free reign of building your own map and terrain, and for the other you get to run around freely carrying guns blasting away at your enemies.
However, while the key idea is promising, the game disappoints in actual execution.
CraftedBattle has users create their own battlefields through 3-dimensional blocks that can be strategically laid all over to make a map you can use to your advantage. While this system works fine, I felt that the graphics would have been a little more refined. Perhaps the developers deliberately created the block texture effect to emulate Minecraft but I felt that game would’ve done better with sharper graphics to keep up with the modern games of today.
When it came to actual first person game play though, CraftedBattle proved to be an utter disappointment. For one, the robotic AI characters were extremely predictable and easy to manipulate around. For beginners this might serve as a blessing but as one gets better at the game it starts to bore real quickly. For two, there was a lack of visible visual effects which brings us back to my initial gripe on graphics. With a crude joystick to turn around with and two buttons for shooting and jumping, it was no surprise to why this game bored so quickly.
The developers could have done better by making the game a little more realistic rather than give it this neither here nor there feel.
CraftedBattle is a game and genre with plenty of potential, albeit wasted in this app.
Priced at $0.99, this is definitely not worth my dollar.
