I don’t think it’s too much to be demanding of Ubisoft, after all this is a company that has brought us many a good game. Thankfully, it never disappoints.
Rayman Jungle Run is one example on how the benchmark for side scrolling platforms should be set. While staying true to the basics of such a genre with game play based around getting to the other end, dodging obstacles and collecting bonuses all with just a one touch control, Rayman Jungle Run has a few cards up its sleeve.
While it does utilize the same one tap control found in pretty much all side scrolling games, the ability to do flips and stunts alongside the occasional changing of direction provides some ingenuity to the game. Well aimed taps and holds are required by the player, asking for extreme concentration and focus on the game.
It’s plus points that Rayman Jungle Run has visuals that are really beautifully sculpted too. Each terrain transitions through smoothly, and much attention is paid to little details like effects flying around and beautifully rendered backgrounds.
This is one of the most attractive side scrolling platforms I have ever laid my hands on.
