The iPhone 5 can be called a success. During the first 24-hours, it was reported that more than 2 million people had pre-ordered the device. On the same date, pre-order delivery was pushed back to 2 weeks and then to 3-4 weeks. Due to the overwhelming demand, supply for the iPhone 5 was low. As mentioned by All Things D, it was reported that the supply for the device was “extremely low”. In fact, Gunster forecasted that Apple will manage to sell around 25 million units instead of the previous estimation of 27.2 million units.

However, with this being said and done, Apple had promised to keep up to the supply issue. In fact, they expect to meet the demands by December 2012. The estimated sales of 49 million units for the holiday quarter were expected to be achieved by the company. For many, this is considered to be good news as Apple had also promised to release the iPhone 5 to as many as 100 countries by the end of the year.

In addition to that, based on Jeffries analyst Peter Misek, he stated that the main reason why the demand for the iPhone 5 was high is simply because there were as many as 170 million subscribers finishing off their contract.
