User Rating:For those who live in or near major earthquake zones, or even for those who are simply interested in serious geologic activities, the Quakes app will be a wonderful and remarkably informative tool. It alerts users to earthquakes that have occurred anywhere in the world, as long as they reach a certain strength.
Those using the Quakes app will be able to open it and see a constantly revised listing of the most recent earthquakes that have taken place anywhere in the world. In order to register on the app, however, the quake must be more than a 2.5 on the Richter Scale and be reported by the Earthquake.gov agency.
When a quake does appear the user can then tap on the item to see a map of the location and view specifics about the time and place in which it occurred. If data is relevant to the individual it is easily saved to the app for future reference. The app also offers a Push notification that enables the user to receive word of updated activities regardless of whether the app is turned on or not.
While there are other earthquake notification apps, the Quakes app seeks to provide global rather than simply regional coverage. It also delivers a unique option for recording and saving data which many other apps do not.
There is no cost for the Quakes app, and any future updates are also to be available for no fees as well. This app is compatible with iPod Touch and iPhone devices.
If you want to keep tabs on the range of seismic activity occurring around the world, this is definitely an app to download today.
