User Rating:Standing atop a mountain and looking out over the expansive landscape is always an interesting and unique experience. Being able to point to a neighboring crest, ridge, or peak and being able to know its name is even more exciting, and this is what the PeakFinder Alps app allows the user to do.
The PeakFinder Alps app uses the onboard GPS to precisely detect the current location, and then generates an accurate image of the surrounding landscape. It functions in the Austrian, Swiss, French, German, Italian or Slovenian Alps, and doesn’t even require a connection to generate all of the details. It offers the names of more than twenty thousand geographic features along with a full text search engine.
It has a built-in compass to make things even easier to understand and gives access to a unique digital binoculars feature that allows the user to zoom in on peaks or ridges that are less prominent in the 2D rendering. If the user wants the satellite image of the ridge upon which they stand, the app can pop open this image too.
There are other Alpine apps such as the Swiss Map Mobile, Point de Vue, and SwissPeaks, but only the PeakFinder Alps app can deliver complete information about every viewable area, and in real-time too.
The cost for the app is $1.99 and all updates are made available free of charge. This app functions with iPod Touch and iPhone devices and operates in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish languages.
When you are making a visit to the Alps this is definitely one app that can make your adventure more informative and enjoyable.
