After a long day at the office, I like to check, occasionally, whether my brain is still functioning. That’s why I like apps that require some major thinking, like Cut the rope, Rag Doll and Doodle Jump. And now there’s this new, very pretty puzzle app called Droplets.

Droplet’s developers are San Francisco based Ximad, and they have designed this strategic puzzler with unwinding in mind: it has soothing sound effects and the “action” takes place in the rain forest. You have to connect droplets of water. That’s it. But with over a hundred different levels and all kinds of obstacles, obviously, things aren’t that straightforward! For instance, you can’t think too long, because then you’ll get punished with a steep deduction of points (first time that happened, it hurt!), if you make a wrong move, you get points deducted. It all adds up!

Things get more and more complex as you progress through the levels. It’s a steep learning curve that will keep you on your toes. You will need all your strategic thinking and your logic at the ready. It also appealed to my competitive streak: you can share your results and compare your skills with users all over the globe. If you get the answer in fewer tries, you get a higher score. Droplets has been specifically designed for the ipad, and it shows: the interface is wonderfully easy to use, and delivers intuitive gameplay. Relaxing and addictive at the same time, how often do you see that?
