User Rating:Every since a certain game about birds and pigs was released, developers have been trying to tweak the cannon physics game style to see if they can one up those angry fowl. Ongoz Games has released a game called Circus Pain that takes us back to what most people would think of when they you talk about firing non-cannonballs out of cannons.
In this physics big-top, you are firing your stunt man Igor into the air, trying to land him in the basket. Instead of trying to do damage to the target, Circus Pain is also about doing damage to the projectile in route to the basket. You can utilize walls, bumpers and virtually anything else to increase the damage meter before Igor reaches the basket. The hard part is getting enough damage and still making it in the basket. You are given a rating of 1-10 for each successful attempt. As you complete each level the next is unlocked. There are fifty levels not including the five level tutorial. Circus Pain includes Open Feint support with achievements, but there are no leaderboards to be found.
The controls are simple enough to figure out. you can change the location of the cannon and the trajectory by swiping either the cannon or the line coming from it. The power of the shot comes from the power level on the left and right on the lower part of the screen. One issue I found with this was that occasionally it would misinterpret by tap as moving the cannon or the trajectory instead of the power meter. Once you let go of the power meter, your stuntman is launched. I was also annoyed that there was no way to see where your last attempt was made from. This omission makes it extremely difficult to fix mistakes from a bad shot since the cannon must be set back up from scratch each time.
Demented humor and detailed graphics are this apps strong point. I can’t say this game will outpace a particularly popular physics game that currently sits at the top of the list, but I did find Circus Pain to be a fun game that has a lot to offer fans of this genre. With it’s $.99 price point I would say this is of of those app you should give a try if you like shooting poor stuntmen out of cannons into impending doom.
We rate this app 3.5 out of 5 stars.
