RAM Mount Mobile Phone Holder – Review
As I have been using my iPhone more and more in the car (both for listening to music and for gps directions), it has become increasingly clear that I need a secure, hands-free method to hold the iPhone and talk while driving. I could (and often do), use one of my bluetooth headsets, but a wired method comes in handy if I want to listen to music through the car stereo, and use it for calls without the need to switch from a wired connection to the bluetooth.
After a bit of searching, i have settled into a two part solution. The first half of the equation is the RAM Mount Mobile Phone Holder and windshield suction cup combo (trying saying that 3 times in a row real fast).
This two-part solution allows me to safely and securely attach a cradle to the windshield, and hold my iPhone (or iPod Touch) tightly. RAM does offer device specific cradles for the iPhone, however, those require that the device be removed from whatever case, regardless of which case I am using on a particular day. Instead, I opted for a universal mount that will hold any device in that size range regardless of whether or not it is in a case.
Installation was a breeze. The system comes in two parts, and after securing the cradle to the suction base with the included screws, the suction mount easily attaches to the windshield. It feels amazingly secure and leaves no doubt about it suddenly falling off and letting the iPhone loose.
Putting the iPhone in the cradle is as simple as placing it in the cradle and squeezing the two sides together. To release it you simply push the small button on the bottom. It is simple, quick and safe. It is not, however, cheap, since the suction cradle costs $32.20, and the cradle costs $22.84.
Not cheap, but what price would you put on safety and convenience?
