User Rating:Unique and incredibly addicting, Topple is a new idea with some familiar concepts. This developer clearly gets the concept of using the iPhones accelerometer and touch features as a core part of this game.
Think of Topple as Tetris with the need to build, instead of clear, blocks. The colors are bright, the graphics are clean, and the gameplay is very unique. The object of the game is to build as high as you can without Toppling the height of the tower over. If you set up the blocks in the ‘right’ configuration, you will be able to build high, if you end up misplacing a block a little off center, or if you don’t build enough support for a particular side, you might just Topple the structure. Lose too many block over the side and you lose.
The ability to rotate the blocks to fit a particular way in your structure makes this a more challenging game, and I have often found myself second guessing whether or not I made the best choice for the prior support foundations. The greatest thing of course, is that when your structure starts to become more unstable and blocks are wobbling one way or another, you can tilt your iPhone to help keep them in place while you drag down another block for more ‘support’.
I like the fact that you can go back and push an older block lower in the structure over or take a new block and ‘fit it in’ to a space you might have left.
The music can get a bit repetitive. Other than that, though, this is a well thought out, unique, and addictive addition to the rapidly growing iPhone arsenal of games.
