User Rating:Awaken for the Mac is one of my all time favorite Apps! The real question is though: Am I going to love the app for the iPhone/iPod touch the same?
When you first get into the App you are greeted with a note from the developer just simply stating the app has to be running in order for the Alarms to play. Funny they had to put that in, but hey I’m sure it was helpful to some.
As for navigating the app I found it rather intuitive. Need to set an Alarm? Go to the Alarm tab at the bottom, and then hit the plus at the top right, Embraceware was even nice enough to add a helpful little arrow pointing were to start. Sleep timer was just as easy.
Looking at the settings tab, everything is rather straight forward, They have some nice clock styles to choose from. Flip clock is my favorite, and I don’t like Classic LCD at all, but they are both available if you like either one of those.
They also added a nice add-on to the clock. You can shake the iPhone to turn on the flashlight. I’m always stumbling around in the dark and bumping into things that I don’t mean to, so I’m certain this feature will be useful to a lot of the people who purchase Awaken.
As for what I’m not a fan of, is that the dim with your finger on the clock, doesn’t really dim the backlight it just kind of makes the clock disappear, leaving you with a black light screen. I would like to see the developers fix this or at least make it an option for the user to select.
The only other problem I found was that when you go to try and silence an alarm, it makes it difficult because the dimming clock feature gets in the way and makes it very hard to see the clock after you’ve moved your finger around the screen. I’m sure this can also be "fixed" pretty easily by the developer.
All in all, I would give this app a thumbs up (mostly because of the innovative night light).
Quick Take
Value:High
Would I Buy Again:Yes
Learning Curve:Zero
Who Is It For:People who need an alarm clock that also functions as a night light for that mid night bathroom run.
What I Like:The Flip Clock Style & Shake to make a Light appear.
What I Don't Like:The Dim feature gets in the way
Final Statement:I think Embraceware has done a wonderful job making an iPhone/iPod Alarm. The things I found not to my liking are minor. I'd say this is an app you can put your money on.
