Breaking all hopes of the developers, the Avengers Initiative wasn’t as huge as the movie and this made the game slide down, all the way from 7 dollars. Now that its free, packing a baby form of Infinity Blade, the 1.5 gigabyte game isn’t that bad either.
A top secret prison under S.H.I.E.L.D has been compromised, releasing a number of super-powered villains into the wild. In-charge Nick Fury, lets loose the angry Hulk to put them all back to where they belong.
Like the Infinity Blade or Blood & Glory, fights with each villain occur as a static scene. Swipe to slash the opponent or to deflect their attacks. Tap the shield to block them and move sideways to evade scratches. Stun your enemy and shower with multiple & combo moves to bring them to their knees. Each opponent has an attack style and if you crack it, things are alot easier. When the energy bar fills up, use the aggressive rage attack for critical hits but bear in mind that many beasts have their own super powers like lightning, fireballs, lasers etc.
Proceed by defeating one by one and collect iso-8 (a fancy term for the common coins) or you can buy them within the app. Use them to upgrade armour, defense, weapons, costumes, medikits etc while a ten thousand of them will unlock the Captain America version.
The overall gameplay seemed pleasing and the controls were respectable. Sound effects are above average while the cut scene animations are great. The awesome finishing moves by Hulk are clearly conceived from fatality in the Mortal Combat series. One drawback to be mentioned is that only a few villains are encountered in the whole game as the same ones reappear with just higher levels. With that in the dumpster, this free game surely not to be ignored
