User Rating:Atypical Games is back with yet another ‘atypical game’. After their success with airborne fighter games, Sky Gamblers: Cold War and Sky Gamblers: Storm Raider, they’ve decided to land their jets and join the Army. Battle Supremacy takes the fight down to the Earth as we occupy the cabin inside a giant tank in this awesome battler!
The battle field
Imagine World War II. Take a random Nazi Checkpost in France. A hot battle is in progress with lots of tanks – lots and lots of tanks! And there you are, inside one of those metal beasts, with some subordinates for help. Drive it, hide it, protect it and fire the heck out of the enemies. Do your part to restore world peace with balls of fire!
Canons
The gameplay is somewhat new, sporting something like Counter Strike but between hundred-ton tanks, instead of cops and terrorists. Battle Supremacy sports 6 different modes including Single Player and Free Roam modes but is undoubtedly the best with WiFi toggle on. The Multiplayer zone includes King of the Hills (take over a post before the red guys do), Team Death Match (be the last tank rolling), Capture the base (keep the base for as long as you can and Free for All (every one is on his own).
Each battle begins with you spawning at the safe end of the field and you’ve to roll through the vegetation to the heat of things. Keep an eye on the radar on right top for red dots. Turn your canon, zoom-in on an enemy panzer, get some help from the target-locking feature, wait for the right moment and Boom! “Nice Shot, Sir”, screams your assistant. Keep moving before he locks you back, take some cover, crawl stealthily to another strategic position and repeat!
Let your fellow giants do the same, close in on the enemy territory and clear the area to win matches in Battle Supremacy. In the mean time, you can also have some violent fun like ramming right into a 10% healthy enemy, uprooting some trees, taking down walls or even turning around and ignoring all this sin! If you ever get killed, you can respawn back even in Single player mode and also restart from previous checkpoints (when offline). The only real failure is when the timer ticks zero and you’re on the losing side.
And the battles take place in Pacific, French or Russian territories varying from sea shores to deserts. After each game, your XP increases and you climb up in ranks. Only then, newer, faster, stronger and better tanks are unlocked and for free. Yeah thats right, for free and not even a single in-app purchase. Take that, all you greedy developers!
In the resting camp
Talking about execution, we all know how well Atypical Games does that. Starting with simple interface and nil in-app purchases, Battle Supremacy is a great example. The game boasts fast load times and instant connection to online game rooms. Certain crash issues were reported initially, but the new update and a device reboot fixed it.
The controls are cranky but seems deliberate. You control the turret (view) and the driving separately, and independent of each other, unlike other games like GTA. It will give you a nasty vertigo for the first few plays but you’ll adapt it willingly when you realize how relevant this is to the gameplay. If you can only shoot straight, you’ll always be marching towards the enemy while shooting it and wouldn’t be able to flee or distract them. But once you’ve a faster tank and you get somewhat used to it, this control system becomes the winner.
The graphics are one of the best in the category of Battle Games with fine details like splash effects, explosions, far-away horses etc. The environments are really responsive with almost anything coming contact with you toppling over. Camera view can be tweaked too. The sound effects are triumphant and perfectly suites the situation.
Battle Supremacy concentrates alot on user experience as well, even in trivial matters and has totally won me over. The chats during multiplayer games, great vintage cut scenes and the occasional plane & boat rides are mind blowing.
The Verdict
This is a high quality battle game with spectacular graphics, awesome controls, stable multiplayer and lots of content. Polished to the very tip with high concern for users, the reputed developers has done it again as Battle Supremacy gets a soaring flag here at WhatsoniPhone. And at $4.99 for the whole game, its just Christmas!
Tips
- Use the free-roam mode to master the advanced controls.
- Take covers and keep moving in battles.
- Watch out for falling trees and crumbling walls to anticipate enemy approach. Try not to cause these yourself, either.
- Don’t just go out and shoot randomly. You might get away with it initially but as things get harder, you need to plan it out.
- Staying with the team is not always necessary. Single out to safe strategic points, if necessary.
- Dont always rely on target lock, especially with moving tanks. Use the scope.
