Apple sends cease & desist notices to Apptrackr

A lot of jailbreak iPhone users would know about Apptrackr which is one of the biggest and most complete website when it comes to getting pirated iOS applications. In here lies the links to probably a huge array of applications which could be downloaded for free instead of getting them paid through the App Store.

Like most pirated (warez) websites, Apptrackr is liked by many but hated by the original developers as they are losing millions from the pirated software. Apple, like many respected companies, sends “Take Down” notices to Apptrackr. In addition to that, Apple also tracked down a lot of the links that the website has and reported them as well. As a result, a lot of applications were left with dead links.

Apptrackr on the other hand, decided to implement a few features which would most probably slow down Apple. An implementation of a CAPTCHA plugin was made so that it would be harder for Apple to go through the links by automated means. In addition to that, they also moved their servers in multiple countries on which are not governed by U.S laws as well. As mentioned before, this may not stop Apple to fight against piracy but it sure will slow the company down at the process.
