Did Apple try to block Spotify in the US?

Rumors have long been circulating that Apple was unhappy with the entry of Spotify n the US market. Now Sean Parker, a director of Spotify, states that Apple may have actively tried to prevent Spotify from entering the U.S. market.

At the All Things Digital Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes on Wednesday Parker said “Apple felt threatened by Spotify and that he had gotten indications from dealings with people inside the industry that the iPhone maker was trying to impede Spotify’s expansion onto its home turf.”

When asked by interviewer Walt Mossberg whether Parker believed Apple had tried to keep Spotify out of the United States, Parker stated that he had heard things from others, furthermore he added that the music business represents only a small part of Apple’s overall business. So even if they had felt threatened by Spotify, and even if Spotify had managed to eat into the market share of Apple then “it wouldn’t be hugely significant to their bottom line.”
