iPhone 5 is the first and, so far, only iPhone compatible with 4G LTE networks worldwide and its heir, iPhone 5S will follow in his footsteps, but would also be compatible with LTE Advanced standard. Korean operator SK Telekom contacted Apple asking that LTE Advanced standard will be implemented in the iPhone 5S, and presently the two companies are in talks to its introduction.

A publication from Korea says that Apple is interested in the idea and that Qualcomm modems could be used to implement the standard, but to be honest I think it’s too late to implement such functionality.

SK Telecom and Apple are expected to unveil an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) phone in the coming months. SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations. The SK Group affiliate said it plans to have as many as seven LTE-A devices available by the end of the year. LTE-A enables customers to use the next iPhone to download data at a speed of 150Mbps, twice as fast as its predecessor.

Theoretically, LTE Advanced standard, or LTE-A could provide iPhone owners surfing speeds up to 150 Mbps, double than most normal LTE 4G networks. LTE-A standard allows smartphones to make data transfer through multiple channels simultaneously, South Korea is the only country in which this standard is used. Just the fact that LTE-A only exist in South Korea is hard to believe that Apple could implement it in iPhone 5S, but anything is possible when it comes to Americans.
