iPhone developers asked about privacy issues on apps

Apple applications are in no way above the law when it comes to privacy issue and that is why two US congressmen decided to step in and ask 33 iPhone app publishers about the potential privacy issues in their applications. The questions that were asked was related to the way the information is gathers, kept and then used for their benefits and were they in any way breached the users privacy issue to a more unacceptable level.

The developers of applications such as Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg), LinkedIn (Jeff Weiner), Instagram (Kevin Systrom) and a few others were some of the few developers that were targeted. In addition to that, applications such as SK Planet, Ness Computing, Socialcam, Piictu were also asked to give explanation on the potential privacy issues of their applications. The response on which the developers have to give has a deadline of 12 April.

As of date, the two congressmen have only targeted iOS applications instead of Android or any other platforms. Maybe it will be time before developers for these two platforms will be asked about the same questions that will be causing headache to the developers mentioned before. Nevertheless, it may be a good way to protect the end-user’s privacy too.
