Jony Ive designed Special Edition Mac Pro fetches $977,000

Back in October we told you about the Special Edition Mac Pro designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson, back then it was estimated that the special edition Product (RED) would go for somewhere between $40-60,000, well this past week the Mac Pro was auctioned off at Sotheby’s and fetched an astounding $977,000! According to CultofMac this makes it the  “most expensive desktop computer ever built or sold”.

As we mentioned in our previous post the auction was held as a charity to benefit The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Not only did the Mac Pro sell at a much higher than expected price but all other items design by Ive and Newson also fetched much higher bids, these include a pair of Rose Gold Apple Earpods for $461,000 (estimate $25,000), a custom Leica Digital Camera for $1,805,000 (estimate $750,000), and The (RED) Desk for $1,685,000 (estimate $500,000).
