New In the App Store – MobileFiles

I love when this happens… a developer releases an app that does the same thing as many other apps with one HUGE exception… this particular one is FREE.

"Free"- as in "no cost to you",

"Free" as in $0,

"Free" as in "just down load and enjoy"

For this reason I was excited to learn that Quickoffice had released a FREE app for accessing, viewing, downloading, storing and managing iDisk files on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

That is a pretty nice price considering the fact that other apps that do this run $5 or more.

At the same time, though, I have come to learn that, too often, you get what you pay for. So is this FREE app for accessing iDisk a winner?? I just downloaded it to check and the verdict is…

Winner! (With the caveat that it took a few tries before the app would recognize my iDisk login info.)

According to the developer, with MOBILEFILES, YOU CAN:

– Access files stored remotely on your iDisk folder (separate MobileMe account required)
– View files on your iPhone or iPod Touch in landscape or portrait with pan and zoom
– Download from multiple iDisk accounts or friends’ shared public iDisk folders
– Store downloaded files on your iPhone or iPod Touch for faster offline viewing or listening
– Manage your files with our built-in Filemanager for convenient file organization

What is especially nice is that this isn’t a limited app that handles just one or two formats. No, MobileFiles claims to handle "any files stored on your iDisk folders without any restriction".

Unfortunately, while all formats can be transfered to the device, only certain formats can actually be used on the device. While the list is extensive, it apparently does not include iWork files. Not a deal-breaker but not good either. Then again, did we mention this app is FREE!!!!!

What is ESPECIALLY exciting is the fact that Quickoffice has plans to enable you to actually EDIT Microsoft Office files that are on the device FROM the device!!!!!

You can get MobileFiles HERE in the App Store for… FREE.
