Report states that 40% of U.S. teens own an iPhone

According to Piper Jaffray’s semi-annual survey of 7,700 U.S. teens Apple can rejoice over the fact that 40 percent of respondents saying they currently own an iPhone while another 62 percent are looking to buy one as their next phone.

Senior Analyst, Gene Munster, adds to these numbers that at during the same timeframe last year the iphone owning teens only accounted for 23 percent of respondents in Fall 2011.

“Overall, we expect Apple devices to continue to expand in teen ownership and believe that the company is set up well to benefit from loyalty among its younger user base,” Munster said.

Not only Apple’s iPhone seems to be popular among the younger generation, tablets are also gaining in popularity with 44 percent of respondents currently owning a tablet of some sort. Furthermore of those who did own a tablet  72 percent stated that they had an iPad, however data did not state which generation they owned.
