Review – Freehands Gloves
Question — How ridiculous is this — spending at least $20 for a pair of gloves that allow you to expose your thumb and index finger so that you can use the iPhone without having to first take a glove off?
Answer — not ridiculous at all actually.
A few weeks ago I received a pair of the new Freehands gloves. The timing was perfect as the temperature here in New Jersey was plummeting. The gloves solved a major issue with the iPhone. Because it requires you to actually touch the screen with your finger in order to register anything gloves are a huge issue for the iPhone user. Up until now the solution has been to remove your glove before using the iPhone. Kind of defeats the purpse of wearing gloves in the first place!
These new gloves make it possible to still use the iPhone and to only reveal the tips of two fingers. It is a simple but excellent idea and one that I wish I’d thought of myself.
The gloves come in three styles.
The fleece version costs $20, the stretch version costs $30 and the leather version costs $40. Each have magnets built in so that the fingertips can be held out of the way when using the phone. The company makes it clear that they have consciously decided to keep their initial offerings simple — three types of gloves, at three different price points, and in any color you want so long as it’s black.
The company sent me of one of the fleece freehands and I’m rather impressed. They’re made from a soft, lightweight material and are well constructed. They have a special material built into the palms that makes gripping the iPhone easier. The last that around the rest helps keep out the cold air in the gloves include the requisite plastic loop to hold them together when not in use.
Since returning from vacation I’ve had the opportunity to use them for a few days (it is COLD here!) and I find that they are one of those well conceived, simple products that solve a small but annoying problem.
I highly recommend them.
