Syria bans the use of iPhone to stop protests

A startling move by the Syrian government which has been under protest by its citizen was to ban the usage of iPhone by anyone in the country. This move was made to prevent the protesters from sharing images as well as stories on the latest update on the protests made by the government. Anyone found using the device will be prosecuted by the government.

The iPhone was singled out possibly due to an iPhone application called Souria Wa Bas (Syria and that’s all) which has a compilation of videos on human right abuses done by the Syrian government. In addition to that, the application also keeps update on the hotspot of where the protests will or are taking place.

So far, there is no confirmation as to the devices being banned but one thing is for sure: the iPhone will not be available for anyone in Syria regardless of whom the person may be. With this being said and done, it may be a small roadblock for the protesters in Syria but nevertheless, with so many other smartphones being available in the market, there are alternatives available to spread their cause across the globe. Expect new ruling being passed in the future.
