Verizon iPhone Surge Yields First Slip in Android Sales Share in Two Years

The NPD¬† announced the final¬† results of its “Mobile Phone Track” survey for the first quarter of 2011, covering worldwide¬† mobile phone sales. In accordance to ¬† the ,,Mobile Phone Track” survey , Apple got¬† the strength of the CDMA iPhone launch on Verizon to¬† overtake the¬† Android’s smartphones for the first time since¬† 2009.

Apple’s iPhone 4 got classified¬† as the top-selling mobile phone in the U.S. during the quarter and the second place in the rankings¬† was taken¬† by the iPhone 3GS . Despite the fact that the iPhone 3GS is a¬† two-year-old device, it¬†¬† received a strong boost during the first quarter after AT&T and Apple has reduced the price to $49on a two-year contract.

Looking at all mobile phones, Apple is the third manufacture with 14% in  the mobile phone market, behind Samsung at 23% and LG at 18%. Due to them continuously strong growth,  the iPhone and Android  smartphones are for the first time in  top-selling mobile  in U.S with 54 % .
