Want Google Latitude, the new service from Google that puts the final nail in the coffin of privacy?
No problem so long as you use…
- Android-powered devices, such as the T-Mobile G1
- most color BlackBerry devices
- most Windows Mobile 5.0+ devices
- most Symbian S60 devices (Nokia smartphones)
But if you use an iPhone or iPod Touch its… "Coming Soon".
Not long ago new apps appeared FIRST on the iPhone and only later came to those other devices. Things have definitely changed in recent months as the market gets more competative in the handheld arena.
Not that I’m complaining, mind you. I’m more than a bit mixed on the "show people where I am all the time"-thing as it is. Moreover, while there are lots of possible explanations for the release order, I’m more than happy to attribute it to increased competition. It certainly would explain Apple’s slight loosening on App Store restrictions and the latest (AWESOME) rumor that the next version of OS X iPhone might well allow apps to run in the background.
