Sometimes you have a preconceived idea about a game. It could be the artwork, or maybe the developer, or maybe you heard something about the game, but however it happens, you end up coming to the table with baggage.
I will admit that when I first saw Boom the Rock, I thought this was going to be a little children’s game. The developer’s name, Hooligans Entertainment, didn’t bode well for this assumption. On a normal day I might have passed on a game like this and moved on to something better.
Then I heard a zany rock tune that sounded like it was coming out of a tin can. It was followed by a banjo playing mumbling scat singer, and finally a demented operatic tune. This music was so non sequitur, that it intrigued me, and so I played on.
Boom the Rock is a puzzle game where you must form a path for a rocket to hit an asteroid. This asteroid is falling toward earth and not only do you have to hit it, but you must collect all the explosives that are in space along the way. You path is manipulated with a series of points along the line that let you bend and loop the path until the rocket will mis all the obstacles, while getting all the goals. Different levels offer you a different number of points to position and each level timed. Some puzzles require careful timing as objects move across the space to get in the way of the rocket.
There are fifteen free levels across three stories. Once you have had your fill of the free levels there are forty-nine levels that are available as a level pack for $.99.
So is Boom the Rock worth it? For a free game I would say absolutely. The puzzles are mildly difficult and mostly revolves around finding the optimal path for the rocket. There is some timing, but overall the game can be beaten in a matter of an hour or two. The later levels ramp up the difficulty a bit more, but it never seems to stump me at any point.
Completionists will have the ratings for each level which is based on how long it took you to pass the level. Don’t expect a mind bender, or a marathon of puzzle games, but Boom the Rock has quite a bit of charm with its jazzy music and silly effects. The game is just crazy enough to be entertaining, if only for the short time it takes to beat the game.

puzzle In Boom the Rock it`s your job to protect the Earth from certain annihilation at the hands of one pesky asteroid after another. The job is simple: at every stage you’ll need to pick the exact trajectory to ensure you do three simple things:
1. Fly your rocket around obstacles and help it dodge moving threats like aliens & space rocks.
2. Make sure your rocket picks up every floating pack of explosives to arm it with enough BOOM to blow the incoming asteroids to dust.
3. Blow up asteroids before they have enough time to lumber past and destroy the world!
The name of the game in Boom the Rock geometry, timing, and sometimes good old fashioned luck. Figure out how to get all three in harmony and you’ll save the world, fail and - well, you know what happens (Earth goes Boom).
Every level begins with a line going from your feet and ending at the asteroid. That’s your rocket’s path. Your job is to push, twist, and pull it at various available anchor points to make sure it crosses over every floating explosive package in the level and around every bit of danger. You’ll need to time your rocket’s take off perfectly too to ensure that roaming aliens, rocks, and other hurdles don’t thwart your Earth saving efforts!
Earth doesn’t want to blow up. Trust us on that, take the controls, and blow the rocky incoming menaces all around us one after another with Boom the Rock right now!
