Now, HERE’s a game to get excited about: Crazy Taxi. For those of you that don’t know, Crazy Taxi is a classic arcade game which puts you in the shoes of a taxi driver. Doesn’t sound much fun, does it? But, you’re wrong; Crazy Taxi was one of the most highly acclaimed arcade games of its time. I, myself, easily spent rolls and rolls of quarters playing this game at the arcade. Now, I only have to pay $4.99 and I can play it on my Android phone.
The Good
The game runs smoothly, and the graphics are updated from the original arcade and Dreamcast game. There is original music by The Offspring and Bad Religion. Arcade mode is incredibly fun, as you race against the clock that is counting down. It is also controller supported, which is good for those that have a Moga or other HID controller. It is also a universal buy, so you can buy it once and use it on all of your other android devices. The game is well paced, and it is a great game for mobile gamers because you can just pick it up and play it at anytime.
The Bad
One bad thing that sticks out is that the drive and reverse buttons are so close together on the screen that it is almost impossible to not accidentally hit reverse when you’re driving to drive. To fix this, SEGA should separate the buttons on the screen some more, or put them side to side instead of one under the other. Secondly, SEGA missed the opportunity to add more drivers instead of the four characters from the original game.
The Ugly Truth
Crazy Taxi is a game that feels like it was meant to be played on a mobile phone. With incredibly simple controls and fun, addicting gameplay, you’ll find it hard to put down. It is a great port of the original game, and is sure to bring back fond memories of shoving quarters into the machine at the arcade. However, now you can have Crazy Taxi at your fingertips for a one-time $4.99 purchase for unlimited amounts of fun.
