Doctor Who: Eyestalk is an officially licensed app by an independent creator which simulates the view of one of the alien monsters from the BBC television series Doctor Who on the iPhone camera.  It really doesn’t do much more than that.

This app probably wouldn’t be useful to you if you don’t like the television show unless you like apps that show a circle or target in the camera viewfinder.  It does allow for video recording, so if you’re making a piece of Dalek video fan-fiction, this app could be useful.

While I dig the app, I don’t see any widespread appeal but have found areas of improvement.  For example, the icon layout for using the camera seems to only work in landscape mode.  They haven’t accounted for rotating the iPhone or iPad in portrait mode.  While it’s still possible to take pictures or video like that, a better icon layout would be useful.

Also, when applying the Dalek effects on photos that already exist, there is some distortion that takes place.  It would be nice to be able to deactivate the distortion.  If you really wanted to get creative, include some Dalek catchphrases in the app like “Exterminate!” so you can record yourself walking around like a Dalek.

Overall, the app itself isn’t bad.  It’s just limited.  If you’re a Doctor Who fan, I could see this app having some value.  Besides that, I would skip and get the app that makes you take other kinds of distorted photos instead.
