User Rating:Some 20 years ago the first Duke Nukem game splashed into the gaming industry on the now considered obsolete and primitive game consoles of yesteryear. While I must admit that I was not even born at that period, Duke Nukem undoubtedly contributed to a substantial part of my childhood.
So it was great to see how Duke Nukem 2, in full 8 bit glory took a return to the stage by making its way to the iOS platform. Of course, as a port of a pretty ancient classic, do not expect state of the art graphics or whatnot. Its amazing how a small iPhone is able to replicate better standards of graphics compared to the television based consoles of two decades back.
For those who have never heard of this 90s classic, gameplay is rather simple to understand. A side scrolling platform, navigate the character around with the joystick while blasting monsters that come in your way.
Speaking of which, the control system has a virtual joystick and button superimposed upon the game screen, so those with large thumbs might find it a little tricky to get used to. It would have been nice to see a sensitivity tweaking control being placed as an option to suit different thumb sizes better.
Priced at $1.99, Duke Nukem 2 appears to be more geared towards the older ones who want to relive what was one of the pioneers of video games. However, for the younger generation who want to give it a shot, this is one great game to try out.
