There are plenty of apps out there on the App Store that can turn your series of images into animated GIFs, but I am sure it is safe to say hardly any of them offer the flexibility of Echograph. Extremely easy to use, Echograph has quickly become one of my favorite apps to turn to when trying to create something quirky without taking up too much time.
For the uninitiated, GIFs are animated images whereby a short loop is played repeatedly and can be used like a regular image on many websites.
For starters, Echograph allows users to upload images currently stored on their devices, use stock footage, or even take live video recordings to serve as the basis for their GIFs. The video recording part caught my eye as many an app out there require users to use pre-filmed footage for processing which makes the whole process extremely tedious. Having a live recording function adds convenience to the equation, which always scores plus points in my books.
My favorite feature of Echograph lies in the ability to “paint” out specific areas of the image whereby only the selected part of the frames would be rendered moving while the rest of the image stays still. One example would be a washing machine scene as seen in the tutorial video provided by the developers. Here, the user selects only the window of the machine to be movable and thus the finished product has everything staying still while the clothes inside the machine continue to churn away frame by frame. Echograph also makes it easy to select which scene of your clip you wish to use, with functions and buttons being easy to toggle.
Usually priced at $2.99, Echograph was a tad expensive as compared to other GIF making applications out there. However, given the flexibility and options given, it is still worth every penny. Now that the app is priced at only 99 cents, it’s a steal. Grab it!
