User Rating:Evernote is one of the most used Mac OS X applications around and most people will have it installed, as it’s free as well. Evernote, for those who do not know it, is a note taking app with some extras. You can store bookmarks (direct from Safari, Firefox and/or Chrome). I myself am an avid user via the Chrome plugin; makes it really fast to clip pages into Evernote. The clipping function copies the webpage into your Evernote, so it becomes searchable within microseconds without loading the actual applications at that time.
Egretlinks is a simple and effective application to view your bookmarks you clipped / created in Evernote on any iOS device. As a universal app, you don’t have to worry about where it can be used. As the name suggests; the app is really focused on the links you make in Evernote; it’s not really about the notes. More interesting; the notes you entered are not visible in the app and cannot be searched. You are able to quickly browse and view your links, you can sort them and share them via a plethora of social and other tools.
The interface is very intuitive; more so (in my opinion) than the Evernote app itself. Browsing, deleting and grouping links is easily done and you can do this all straight from the app. Most functionality you don’t have to try first ; it’s very intuitive. Besides the interface, I have some to-do’s for the developer though; you need internet to run this app; nothing works without it. Even when you previously opened a link, as soon as internet closed, you get an error message. Why is this? Why doesn’t it store it locally so you can view offline. The second problem is the lack of having the entire note attached somewhere; if you search for something which is in the attached note (which I always do to find bookmarks), you will not find anything.
We liked the app and will be using it ourselves as it is easier to use than Evernote itself for links, but it would be more useful and have a higher rating if the author could fix the above grievances.
We rate this app 3.5 out of 5 stars.
