User Rating:Are you having issues in your relationship? Maybe things aren’t going as well as they once were? Or maybe you and your significant other simply feel like your relationship has become more of work than choice? If any of these seem to be the case, or even if they aren’t and you just want to do a little bit extra for your partner, Empower promises to be “the perfect tool to take your relationship to the next level”.
I have to admit I was a little excited about this application. I assumed it would give me cute ideas of little things to do, just to show that other person you are thinking about them. Some days were like this, and others were way off in my opinion. When you first open Empower you are given today’s date and the suggestion or idea for that day. At the top of the screen are two arrows, one to go to a previous day, the other going to the next day. Each day features a new suggestion, idea, or quote to help you and your partner. One suggestion was to “leave heart-shaped candies around the house for your partner to find”. I thought this was a cute idea, and so did my girlfriend. There were a few ideas in this little application that were good, and seemed sweet. Others however, seemed like the developer was simply trying to find anything to fill in that day. January 27th told me “don’t assume anything. You know the saying ASSUME means you make an ass out of U and ME”. That’s a great piece of advice, but it really doesn’t give me any ideas as far as something to do to help ’empower’ our relationship. Finally, there are the days that really tend to upset me. I am an agnostic personally, I don’t lean either way on the belief of God, but if you are considering picking up this application you may want to believe to some degree. A lot of the days talk about dealings with God. Bible verses, going to church, praying, etc all seem to be a trend in this application.
Empower is an application I think meant well. And it had a few decent ideas. But overall it seemed to be more like advice we have all already heard before, and suggestions for you to find God. I was a bit disappointed overall with this application. I fully expected this application to be cute ideas to do for your partner, and every once in a while it gives you an idea like this. Candy hearts placed strategically around the house for them to find, or lighting candles and having a glass of wine to a movie, those all sounded good and the girlfriend even agreed they would be sweet. Unfortunately, ideas like this are few and far between. Most of the days you get a quote, or bible verse, or told to find a church to go to to worship god together. Also quite a few of the days have websites it tells you to visit, I’m not sure if the developer received compensation to advertise for them or not. Empower only goes for $.99 in the App Store, and it may benefit you more than it did me, who knows?
QUICK TAKE
Value: Medium
Would I Buy Again: No
Learning Curve: None
Who is it For: Anyone who would like advice or ideas to help improve their relationship
My Likes: A few cute suggestions to let your partner know you are thinking about them
My Dislikes: More quotes and references to God than anything I really thought was pertinent to making a relationship stronger
Final Statement: Empower seems like a great app. And even though it didn’t really do it for me, it might be just what you and your partner need to get things back on track. Or maybe even just spruce your relationship up a little.
