Halfbrick Studios are back with a juicy update to their popular title – Fruit Ninja. I am sure, all of you out there have played this game at least once and there is no point in discussing the game scenario. Instead, I am going to stress on what the developers have newly added to make your salad better! The major new addition is the introduction of Star-Fruit Currency, which can be used to purchase goodies from the Gutsu’s cart. Initially, you are given 1000 of these for free and more Star-Fruits are added after each game, based on your score. Also, these green fruits cross your screen during games and if leaves the screen in two pieces, you gain upto 350 star-fruits. And of course, these start raining into you inventory if you are willing to swipe your credit card.
With these start fruits, you can purchase from 3 different power ups – Bomb Deflect, Berry Blasts and Peachy Times. Bomb Deflect as anyone could guess, enables you to deflect the bombs out of your fruit board. There is a limit to this power up that no matter how much of this you purchase, you can deflect only three bombs in one game. This is a very relevant addition since otherwise, the Classic Mode would be rendered useless. Berry Blasts submit glowing strawberries to your index finger and when slashed, they explode and clear all fruits from the screen, as a combo. Each of these berries are worth 5 points as well. Peachy Times – Taste the juice of an yellow peach and gain 2 seconds in Arcade and Zen modes. Purchase these power ups and you will surely increase your average scores as well improve the high scores.
In addition, more backgrounds and swords are available for purchase. Game Center is now integrated into the game so that you can play with your buddy or view global scores. I am not sure about this but, after playing this for a while, I think that the game as a whole has been made simpler. More Super-Bananas appear in each game, more Combo chances are available and it is now easy to reach the Unbelievable Blitz level. My scores have gone through the roof after this update. Please do comment, if you are also experiencing the same.
The fresh features are excellent and works perfectly. But if you ask me, I would say that I miss the old version. Although the boss claims this update to be a special gift on their second anniversary, I personally think that these In-App Purchases are introduced for more revenue and continuous earnings, rather than a fixed one time payment. I do believe that the developers have done a wonderful job with this game and they should be rewarded well, but this update has looted much fun and addiction from the gameplay. I no longer fear the bombs and neither aim for combos, when strawberries are around. Also, if you make a heavy purchase, you are sure to beat your best score. Sometimes, purchases seem to matter more than skill. Although things aren’t as bad as it sounds, I would surely prefer to get the old version, if I were given a choice.
