The iPhone is a great platform for productivity. For many it is a great way to eliminate the need to lug a laptop around with them. For other’s the iPhone the perfect gaming platform with innovative games that challenge the common perception about what it takes to create a successful game. One area that we see more development in is the area of children’s apps.

While not many younger kids are actually owes of these smartphones, as a parent I will often find myself entertaining my children with the apps on my device. The streaming video is nice, but children want interactive games. Thandros Media Co. has delivered an interactive game specifically designed for use by small children in the 2-5 age range. Fun with Thandros gives you a variety of activities. They are subdivided by age. On the <3 year old age group, you have a tap-fest that gives you children an image that has hot spots that animate and play sound effects when tapped. There are two different images and each hotspot has two to three different animations. The animation is colorful and reminds me of MSpaint. For children under three, this activity should provide plenty entertainment for those times when you need to distract a young one. All of the activities can be exited by a swipe of the exit button. For the older crowd you have a maze game that has the player navigating an increasingly more complicated series of mazes with a small amount of story to tie the levels together. All of the narration is voiced with silly character voices that, while may not be the highest quality, are more that adequate for the target audience. Finally, the center section is meant for all ages and contains an interactive story that plays like a "choose your own adventure." There is only one story, but there are several possible endings depending on the choices the player makes. The second activity is a matching game that plays just like the game memory. Fun with Thandros is a nice collection of games and stories that should entertain your young children and keep them busy at times when they would normally be antsy and fussy. The layout of the interface suggests that there will be additional activities added at a later date. If you have a small children and are looking for a good app to keep them occupied, Fun with Thandros is currently $.99 on the app store. We rate this app 4 out of 5 stars.
