While on first glance the Google Search app is nothing amazing, it impresses with its functionality and convenience offered. Most of the time, searches on iOS devices are often carried out by launching the mobile Safari browser before firing up the Google bookmarked page, followed by manually inputting the query and browsing through the selections one by one.
With the Google Search app, emphasis is placed on multitasking and everything is made much more convenient.
The Google Search app adds a side panel on the iPad interface. This panel allows for users to browse through their search results while surfing the sites suggested without having to toggle between tabs like on mobile Safari. Instead, everything is presented smoothly on a single screen where scrolling between the two is an extremely easy task.
The Images tab is also designed rather prettily, with a Cover Flow like orientation to scroll through images.
A nice feature in the Google Search app is the ability to conduct searches through voice control. While this might not seem like a good idea to use this function on a crowded bus, it does provide some added convenience by doing away with typing text. However, whether this proves to be useful or redundant in the long run remains to be seen.
A free app, Google Search is a definite must to download.
