User Rating:Not many of us are unaware of the Grand Theft Auto series for playstation and PC. GTA Vice City has been one of the greatest hits from Rockstar games and perhaps this has encouraged them to release the iOS version.
Tommy Vercetti is a member of the mafia who looses some money and cocaine in an ambush. His boss is furious (who’s isnt!) and now, Tommy has to repay every penny to save his life. Guess who’s playing Tommy’s part?
As the gangster, you have the freedom to do whatever you want. Start street fights, steal vehicles, shoot pedestrians, loot banks, tease the police, do stunts and just anything you could but wouldn’t in the real life.
In your chase for cash, you come across countless missions; complete them to earn more money and enemies. As dollars start pouring down, buy shops, houses, garages, docks, tools, weapons or anything up for sale. Try to keep the VCPD off your tail else, the wanted levels will keep your heart pounding. Get killed or caught and you lose some money whereas failed missions can be restarted. As with the original, the sweetest part of the game is the free roam where you get somebody out of their Cheetah and go for a tour, doing stunts & challenges and eventually burning down the ride.
Walk and Run are the two normal controls while Fight and shoot options appear at the concerned scenes. Get in a car or bike and you have accelerate, brake, steering and reverse controls (many users complain that these are clumsy, but they seemed perfectly fine to me).
Like many other PC hits (Prince of Persia, Max Payne etc), Vice City for iOS also sports the exact clone of the console counterpart. From the maps and scenes to the conversations and animations, everything is traced out without change. Even the vigilant missions, FM radio and hidden packages are the same! Nevertheless, being played the game for an awful lot time, I can assure that Vice City fans are in for a treat.
Quick Take
Value:High
Would I Buy Again:Will do!
Learning Curve:Medium-High
Who Is It For:The console version fans
What I Like:Stunts and animations
What I Don't Like:No change from the orginal
Final Statement:Godfather!
From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile. Vice City, a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, was one of the most varied, complete and alive digital cities ever created. Combining open-world gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.
