Before installing iOS 5 beta, you should know what you are dealing with.
For general iPhone Users, it’s recommended to wait until iOS 5 has been finalized and released to the public this fall, in the next few months. However, if you still wanted to try out iOS 5 beta version, try it at your own risk. Beta versions are intended for developer.
Requirements to install iOS 5:
- Compatible device with activated UDID.
- If you are developer, please activate UDID of your devices which you want to install iOS 5 to.

These are compatible devices with iOS 5.
iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd & 4th Generation, original iPad and iPad 2, also Apple TV.Other devices such as iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch Original and 2nd Generation are not compatible with iOS 5.
- Download iOS 5 IPSW file
- Download iTunes 10.5 Beta
Follow these steps to install iOS 5 after above requirements is fulfilled.
- Make sure that UDID of your device has been activated as developer.
- Install iTunes 10.5 beta then restart the computer.
- Open iTunes then connect the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
- Backup your device on iTunes. Right click on the device, click Backup. (MUST DO THIS, UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO LOST ALL DATA AFTER INSTALL IOS 5)
- Do Shift + Restore (Option + Restore on Mac) to update the iOS software on device and choose the iOS 5 IPSW file that you have downloaded.
- Wait until the process finished.
- You are ready to activate the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad right on the device.
