User Rating:Gunman Clive is a refreshing take into side scrollers for iOS devices (works as well in iPad or iPhone). And it’s not your average platformer! Read on for more details.
In Gunman Clive you play the role of Clive, rescuing the poor damsel captured by the bandits in a far west-themed platformer. The game style is charming, a cross between Popeye drawn animations and old-school Mickey Mouse films (even with the film paper flickering). Gameplay is simple enough: You can move sideways (and up and down when given stairs or ledges, or duck instead of go down) jump and shoot. Baddies (which for some unknown reason, include ducks which can hurt you) will shoot at you, throw you dynamite and hide behind crates.
There is no true enemy AI (luckily, the game is hard enough as it is): the bad guys will shoot in your direction and duck behind crates in repeated patterns, the same goes for ducks which will just walk right and left.
Even if the game is a side scroller, the background has an interesting 3D appearance: as you move the background objects will show different sides, as in a 3D experience. Character animations are pleasantly smooth and well-crafted.
In short: Gunman Clive is a pleasant newcomer into iOS side scrollers, brilliantly executed and with a superb appearance.
